October Tutor of Note - Mariya Waters Appliqué Workshop

Mariya Waters is an international and Australian award winning quilt maker and teacher. She currently specialises in hand appliqué and machine quilting but has also won international awards for contemporary art and innovative quilts.

Mariya began quilting in New Zealand in 1990 and her first quilt was selected for a juried quilt show and then published in a book. In 1994 while living in England her third quilt won the prestigious Ascot Trophy at the national championships. Since then Mariya has specialised in making quilts for exhibition with most taking a year or more to complete. http://www.mariyawaters.com/

Mariya was our guest speaker in April 2023 and provided two Workshops for the Guild that year. We were in awe of Mariya’s skills and talents after we took most of the day to make one flower with her exquisite appliqué technique.  We’re making the flower in this picture for the class.

Our next Workshop with Mariya is on October 12, a Guild members-only event. Mariya has said that this project will fit a cushion or the front panel of a bag. The kit for the workshop will be provided on the day. Please bring along your usual hand-sewing tools, your lunch and your mug. Morning tea will be provided.

If you have put your name down to attend either of the upcoming workshops – Mariya Waters or Rachael Daisy – please note that payment is due before attending. No payments will be accepted on the day. For the Rachael Daisy workshop there is some pre-workshop homework which needs to be done so please get your payment in so I can email you the notes.
